The Korea University LINC 3.0 Project Group (Director Lee Kwan-young) hosted the 2023 XYZ Seoul Hackathon at the Social Campus On Seoul 2 Center on April 18.

This event was organized to cultivate global professional personnel for the LINC 3.0 project, enhance the status of the global industry-academia-research cooperation project with Spain’s M0ndragon University, and strengthen its global network. About 50 people from Korea University, M0ndragon University of Spain, Kyungnam University LINC 3.0 Project Group, and other groups attended the AI prototype production hackathon to engage in joint assignments and problem-solving.

The event started with greetings from Korea University LINC 3.0 Project Group Professor Ha Man-hyo and Spanish Ambassador to Korea Guillermo Kirkpatrick de la Vega. The hackathon had 35 participants—10 Korea University students, 20 M0ndragon University students, and 5 Kyungnam University students—divided into seven teams. An active attempt was made to solve problems facing global society using AI solutions. In addition, through mentoring on problem-solving system construction and prototype production from AI experts, considerations were made on what directions the project should take.

In particular, by using a people-centered innovation model for problems facing society, efforts were made to solve given tasks through interdisciplinary global teamwork and to come up with concrete solutions. The Korea University and Kyungnam University students who participated in this hackathon were issued hackathon participation certificates by the Embassy of Spain, adding meaning to the strengthening of their global capabilities.

Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering Professor Lee Kwan-young, in his role as leader of the Korea University LINC 3.0 project, said, "It was a meaningful time to discuss the way forward for global industry-academia-research cooperation with experts in special fields that require collaboration between global universities. We will strive to develop the LINC 3.0 project and create excellent global results through various student participation programs in the future.”
