On Thursday, March 5 at 5pm, the Korea University Seokrimhoe foundation held its scholarship awards ceremony for the spring semester of 2018 in Inchon Memorial Hall.

55 students from 15 colleges, including the College of Liberal Arts, were selected as the recipients of the Seokrimhoe scholarship, as they had proven to be exemplary role models for other students, despite often difficult and challenging circumstances. The recipients were collectively awarded an estimated KRW 130 million.

Seokrimhoe is a scholarship foundation that was established in 1970 by KU professors in order to foster and support deserving students. As KU’s largest scholarship foundation, it now has 918 professors as participating members.

In his congratulatory speech, Park Gil-Sung, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, said, “The Seokrimhoe scholarship represents an important part of KU’s unique culture, which cannot be found in other universities. Professors’ constant solicitude for KU students has been the driving force of the Seokrimhoe scholarship foundation. Because of this, the foundation has helped many students during the past few decades. I hope that the professors’ unstinting support will fill you with great courage, and that you all cherish the spirit of this scholarship in your hearts.”

Your instruction and guidance have always inspired us in our studies and our lives. Keeping your example in mind, we will strive to share this commitment with our university juniors in the future.”

Lastly, Woojin Lee, President of Seokrimhoe, expressed his hope of seeing more and more professors join the Seokrimhoe foundation, thus strengthening KU’s invaluable tradition of attracting donations for the improvement of students’ lives, so that more students can benefit from scholarships such as Seokrimhoe’s.
