Korea University ranked 98th in the 2016 QS World University Rankings:
The First Private University in Korea to Enter the Top 100,
KU’s Highest Rank Ever in World University Ranking History

According to the 2016 World University Rankings conducted by Quacquarelli Symonds (hereafter QS), a British university evaluation institution, Korea University (hereafter KU) ranked 98th in the world, its highest ranking ever. For the first since KU began being evaluated by the QS World University Rankings in 2004, the school was able to break into the Top 100, making it the first private university in Korea to do so. This is the result of cooperative efforts in which all KU members have worked to achieve under the commitment of entering the world top 100 university rankings, announced at KU’s 100th anniversary.

This year’s QS World University Rankings assessed more than 4,300 institutions worldwide in four different areas (research, education, alumni, and internationalization) based on six key performance indicators. Among the indicators, the Academic Reputation from Global Survey’ section made up 40% of the overall assessment. A total of 74,651 world academics participated in the assessment survey. KU climbed up five places and ranked 107th, compared to last year’s academic reputation assessment ranking of 112th

The Employer Reputation from Global Survey section made up 10% of the overall assessment. A total of 37,781 employers’ responses contributed toward the survey results and KU which consistently scores  high in reputation climbed up 12 places and ranked 83th. This indicates that KU graduates consistently demonstrate outstanding performance and a future-oriented intellect in the workplace.

Other indicators, including Citations per Faculty from Scopus, Proportion of International Faculty, Proportion of International Students, and Faculty-Student Ratio, were also assessed. KU climbed up nine places in the Faculty Student Ratio, which furnished proof that there have been improvements in regards to KU’s education conditions.

KU ranked first place among private universities in Korea with 23 major fields entering the Top 100 QS Academic Rankings this year. KU ranked No. 1 according to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Rankings and also ranked No. 1 among domestic private universities, showing outstanding accomplishments. According to the QS World University Rankings, KU climbed up 18 places, reflecting its drastic growth over the past two years.
