Korea University’s International Summer College (ISC) held a taekwondo session for its international students at the Hwajeong Tiger Dome for about two hours from 10 am on July 15th.

The event started with a taekwondo demonstration team performing a pine-board breaking demonstration to splendid music. Foreign students applauded their dynamic and disciplined demonstration. Next, the demonstration team presented a fusion poomsae, a combination of K-pop music and taekwondo movements. The students responded with great cheers to the demonstration team performing poomsae to BTS's “Dynamite” and other K-pop hits.

The students then warmed up for their own taekwondo experience. After the brief warm-up, they had a great time doing moves with their partners. They learned basic postures first, and then practiced sparring steps, punching, and kicking. After about an hour of practice, the students took on the challenge of writing their worries and concerns on a pine board and breaking them. This event showcased the global appeal of K-pop and provided an opportunity for students from different countries to unite.

Easter Kabuya (21) from the University of Kentucky in the U.S. said that the event was very interesting and enjoyable, with the most impressive part being when all the foreign students broke the boards in order like a wave. She added that she was satisfied with ISC's various cultural experience sessions and looked forward to the rest of the program.

Koh Wei Ling (22) of the National University of Singapore said that the demonstration team's poomsae performance was very impressive, and that it felt good to try on a taekwondo uniform for the first time.

In addition to the Taekwondo experience session, the students participating in the ISC will take courses led by an excellent line of faculty members gathered from around the globe and participate in various Korean culture experience sessions, such as Korean food cooking classes, the Nanta non-verbal show, and motor studio visits.
