Completion of the 6-week schedule of 2017 ISC, the biggest scale in Korea
Korea University held the completion ceremony of the 2017 International Summer Campus (ISC) on Thursday, August 3, at 7 pm in the auditorium of the KU Inchon Memorial Hall.
The scale of the 2017 KU ISC was the biggest ever in Korea, with over 2,000 students from 32 countries participating, becoming a sensation by breaking the previous record in Korea of 1,860 participants that KU accomplished last year.
In the ISC, which is held for six weeks starting on Monday, June 27th, domestic and international university students, as well as prospective students of overseas schools participated, and current professors from prominent universities such as Stanford University, Cambridge University, Cornell University, Oxford University, the University of Tokyo, and the National University of Singapore, taught approximately 120 courses in the fields of management, economy, politics, law, humanities, science, engineering, and art.
Participating students not only attended classes, but also had time to experience different aspects of Korean culture such as a
Gwanghwamun flash mob, a K-POP experience, cooking Korean food, and practicing taekwondo, as well as having the opportunities to intern at large corporations, public enterprises, and government offices.
The Associate Dean of KU ISC, June-Seek Choi, offered his congratulatory address by stating that, “Six weeks has passed by so quickly. Once a KU Student, Always a KU Student! Congratulations to all students for completing all the courses.”
Next, Professor Antonio Fiori from the University of Bologna encouraged students as the representative of the participating faculty of the 2017 ISC stating, “We hope all the students who have participated in the International Summer Campus welcome the forthcoming opportunities of the future, and become those who improve themselves.”
Sandra Cruz, who received a certificate as the student representative, shared her thoughts by saying, “It is sad to leave the International Summer Campus to go back to our everyday lives. The past six weeks have been a wonderful time building precious relationships with so many people, and learning various histories, cultures, and languages.”
At the end of the completion ceremony, students tossed their graduation caps up into the air as a gesture of congratulating one another; this marked the end of all the programs of the ISC. After the ceremony, students took pictures with professors and students in order to preserve their memories of the 2017 ISC.
