Professor Hee Sun Park receives the highest score in the citation network of the five most central journals

Professor Hee Sun Park (44) from the School of Media & Communication ranked in first place in the centrality index among renowned international communication journals.

According to Scientometrics, an internationally renowned journal, scholars in the communication field including Professor Darrin J. Griffin (University of Alabama), Professor San Bolkan (California State University), Professor Jennifer L. Holmgren (Long Beach City College), and Professor Frank Tutzauer (University at Buffalo) got together and analyzed the index data set of published authors from twenty four communication journals, spanning the years 2007-2011.

Based on the centrality score ranking from the network analysis, it was found that Professor Hee Sun Park from Korea University received a centrality score of 0.0084, putting her in first place.

Among the twenty four communication journals, the five most central journals are ▲Journal of Communication ▲Communication Research ▲Communication Research Reports ▲Human Communication Research and ▲Communication Studies. Professor Park received the highest score in the citation network across all five journals. It was also revealed that Park was recognized as the topmost central author among all the published scholars.

In the journal, the centrality rankings for journals and authors have been discussed in comparison to previous ranking methods. The results for the journals mirrored other network analysis research relying on various citation data.

Professor Park is also well known for being the so-called ‘husband and wife professors’ in the field of communication with Timothy Levine, who is acknowledged as an authority in the area of deception detection. In 2011, a journal which Park and Levine co-authored received the ‘Paper of the Year Award’ in the field of Communication and Social Cognition from the American Communication Association.

Professor Park and Levine together shared first place in the recently announced centrality index.
