“In this era of untact, we participate in ontact international exchange programs”
KU held an e-International Winter Campus (e-IWC) in order to offer non-face-to-face international exchange programs.

International exchange programs are available at KU, even in this era of untact. During the COVID-19 pandemic when face-to-face programs are not possible, Korea University has hosted the largest international winter campus (IWC) in Korea.

KU IWC started on Monday, December 28 and continued for three weeks, with students from around the world able to join without the need for face-to-face contact.

This is the fifth year KU has run its IWC. Starting with approximately 300 participants in 2016 when the program first launched, the number of participants has consistently increased, and KU IWC has maintained its reputation as the largest winter campus program in Korea. Considering the limitations imposed by COVID-19, IWC 2020 was designed around the provision of online courses, which allowed international students to access the courses without physically coming to Korea.

Although all the courses were offered online, KU IWC 2020 attracted a lot of attention from leading global universities, with over 550 students participating from 80 universities in 17 countries including Australia, the United States, Indonesia, Singapore, Canada and Germany.

Starting with the first course, which began at 9am on Monday, December 28, the program lasted for three weeks.

KU faculty members and faculty members from leading global universities such as Brunel University London in the UK, Australian National University, and the University of Montreal in Canada offered 20 courses in various fields including business, economics, the humanities, science and the Korean language.

Apart from academic courses by these renowned scholars, an online cultural exchange program called “KU Bingo Challenge” was offered in order to allow the participants to learn about elements of Korean culture such as K-pop and Korean food, and about Korean history. For international students studying in Korea, untact lectures which provided employment tips were offered as well.

Kim, Jung-ho, Vice President of International Affairs and Dean of the International Winter Campus, said, “Based on the experience of running various online programs for the past year, we are continuing to improve in terms of meeting the needs of online participants. I think this is why many international students have been attracted to our program. Even after COVID-19 is over, we plan to provide both online and offline programs and offer students the opportunity to choose which type of program best suits them.”
