Clarivate Analytics announces the world’s most influential researchers.

List of the Top 1% Highly-cited Researchers of the Past Ten Years is released.

On Wednesday, November 15, 2017, Clarviate Analytics, a world-class company that provides insight and analysis services to customers worldwide released a list of “The Most Influential Researchers in the World for 2017”.

Based on its own ‘Web of Science’, which is noted as the world’s most vast scientific information database, Clarviate Analytics evaluated the more than 130,000 registered articles over the 11 years between January 2005 and December 2015, and based on the works that have been cited the most in their respective fields, selected the top 1% of researchers. This year, out of the 3,300 global highly cited researchers, including multiple category recognition, a total of 34 scientists that achieved research results from Korea were included in the list. Of these, three researchers were awarded in multiple research categories and as a result, 30 people of which 28 are Korean, were actually awarded.

Department of Chemistry Professor Jong-Seung Kim of Korea University’s College of Science was selected. Professor Kim has gained the attention of the world’s chemistry community for his research on a ‘drug delivery complex’ in which drugs can be delivered accurately to only cancerous cells while also being able to monitor the entire process. Recently, he received the Inchon Award in the science/technology category selected by the Inchon Memorial Society and the Dongah Ilbo and, in 2016, was one of the 26 Koreans selected as one of ‘The World’s Most Influential Researchers’ by the data service company, Thomson Reuters. His academic achievements have led him to be selected in the list of ‘1% of Most Cited Researchers’ by Thompson Reuters for three straight years.

This list of researchers that Clarviate Analytics began announcing annually in 2014 is based on the number of citations the academic articles receive in providing assistance to researchers across the world, influencing their research, and instilling inspiration and presenting challenges. Therefore, based on the amount of citations, the researchers included in this list can be viewed as having continuously received recognition from their fellow researchers.
