The “Glorious” 51st Crimson Master’s Concert

The concert titled “Glorious Concert” with conductor Seungup Yoon, soprano Sungnyeo Yoo (Veronica Yoo) and a crossover symphony orchestra

Korea University hosted its 51st Crimson Master’s Concert in Inchon Memorial Hall at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 29. KU has been hosting Crimson Master’s Concerts four to five times each year for its benefactors in recognition of their love and support. Seungup Yoon conducted the concert, which was performed by soprano Sungnyeo Yoo (Veronica Yoo) and a recognized crossover symphony orchestra.

The concert started with “Ruslan and Lyudmila.” After the first performance, the conductor Yoon tried to make the audience feel more relaxed by making a joke, saying, “I actually went to school in Sinchon, but right now I’m here in Anam.” Soprano Sungnyeo Yoo, often introduced in the media recently, continued the performance. She also made a joke by saying, “I am quite an expert in doing an impression of Sumi Jo.” She was considerate of the audience, most of whom were in their 50s and 60s, and invited them to try doing vocal exercises with her so that they could enjoy the concert even more.

Then “Glitter and Be Gay” from the opera “Candide” was performed, and three other songs were sung by tenor Dongmyeong Lee. The overture to Carmen, performed by the crossover symphony orchestra, also uplifted the atmosphere in the hall.

The second part of the concert started with “African Symphony” after the intermission. When tenor Lee finished singing “This is the Moment” from the musical “Jekyll and Hyde,” the audience cheered, and some of them even gave a standing ovation. The audience showed deep interest not only in the famous song, “This is the Moment,” but also in other pieces including “The Phantom of the Opera.” The “glorious” concert had its finale with “Tonight” from the musical “West Side Story.”

When the enthusiastic performance was finished, the audience cheered and applauded the performers. The crossover symphony orchestra and the musicians who gave the great performance expressed gratitude for the support of the audience. It was the very moment of heartwarming and sincere appreciation given to the generous benefactors who love and care about Korea University.
