Korea University (KU) held a ceremony for the establishment of the KU-Ojeong Eco-Resilience Institute Fund, sponsored by Namkyu Min, the representative director of Jakang Materials Co., Ltd., on Thursday, January 5, at 11:00 a.m. in the Main Hall.

In 2014, Min (Agrichemicals, ’66) had promised a donation of 5 billion KRW in total for the Fund hoping for another Korean research organization for the happiness of humanity. He has been donating 500 million KRW to KU each year since then, thereby contributing to the plan of establishing a world-class research institute within a decade’s time.

KU founded the KU-Ojeong Eco-Resilience Institute under the College of Life Sciences and Biotechnology for international research and education networking in accordance with Min’s wishes.

The KU-Ojeong Eco-Resilience Institute aims to form eco-social resilience strategies in order to deal with anomalous and intensive impacts on the environment, such as tsunamis, nuclear accidents, and climate change.

In recognition of Min’s entrepreneurship and donation, KU named the center after his pen name, “Ojeong.”

KU President Yeom expressed his gratitude to Min for his support, promising that “the Institute will march forward on and on in its research and education in accordance with Min’s hope for the greater happiness of humanity.”
