Expected to Play a Role as a Training School to Produce SW Experts
Ministry of SIF Promises Full Support
The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning (Minister: Yang-Hee Choi) selected eight universities, including KU, as Software (SW) universities.
“SW universities” refers to universities with innovative SW curriculum in order to foster SW experts required for our society. The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning promised to provide 11 billion Korean won for six years maximum to these universities.
Through fierce competition among more than 40 universities, Korea University, Gachon University, Kyungpook University, Sogang University, Sungkyunkwan University, Sejong University, Ajou University, and Chungnam National University were finally selected as SW universities.
In order to provide a quality SW education, KU established the College of Informatics, which is above a department in level; it is composed of the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Cyber Defense.
Hyeok Yu, dean of the College of Informatics, stated, “Our students will be able to build their basic digital thinking ability through the Computational Thinking course, which helps students to have innovative ideas in their fields. Then, appropriate SW training will be given depending on each student’s major and field in order to produce highly competitive professionals for his or her successful employment and career.”
