Prof. Heui Seok Lim supervises the ICT Research Center selected by MSIT
Korea University has been selected by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) as a 2018 College ICT Research Center (ITRC).
This year, 11 universities were selected as College ICT Research Centers: Korea University, Kangwon National University, Kookmin University, Sogang University, Sejong University, Soongsil University, Ajou University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Korea Polytechnic University and Hoseo University.
College ICT Research Centers were selected based on their data-network-AI (DNA) and software (SW) sectors, which are viewed as the core foundations for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
From Korea University, Prof. Heui Seok Lim (College of Informatics, Department of Computer Science and Engineering) was selected for his studies on artificial intelligence (multiple intelligence). For the next four years (possibly extending to six years), the ICT Center supervised by Prof. Lim will undertake: ▲ research on technologies fundamental to human-inspired multiple intelligence and related training for experts; ▲ research on deep-learning technology using multimodal-based human learning principles; ▲ development of multiple intelligence AI technologies for efficient learning; ▲ establishment of a knowledge representation system and knowledge base/development of knowledge expansion and convergence technologies; and ▲ intelligent data analysis on patients and hospital facilities/development of technology to support nursing services.
The team will ensure a stable supply of experts to afford the needs of industry by participating in industry-university cooperation programs with small- and medium-sized enterprises, conducting research on shared international concerns, promoting practical professional skills and motivating entrepreneurial spirit.
The MSIT plans to provide annual aid of KRW 530 to 800 million to College ICT Research Centers, and more than 600 students and 75 businesses are expected to benefit every year.
Prof. Lim said, “I will concentrate on developing the core ICT technology required by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and focus on training experts for such an environment.”
