KU outperforms other Korean private universities in the QS Asia University Rankings 2017
Ranked 16th, Korea University has taken an extraordinary upturn compared to major universities in Korea.
According to the rankings of Asian universities released by Quacquarelli Symonds, the British agency that rates universities around the world, Korea University is ranked 16th, outperforming all other private universities in Korea.
Staying tops among private universities in the country for the second consecutive year, the university reaffirmed its status as one of the most prestigious private schools in Korea. While many major universities in Korea have been on a downward path over the past five years, Korea University has continued its upward trend, earning high scores in the international index.
In order to collect data for the rankings, a total of 426 universities in 16 countries, including Korea, China, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, are assessed. In Korea, 47 universities are subject to the university assessment. Korea University has shown a steep increase in the following criteria: papers per faculty (up 12 places from previous year) and the proportion of academic staff members qualified to PhD level (16 places higher than last year). Furthermore, the university ranked two places higher than last year in the criteria of academic reputation and employer reputation. In terms of the proportion of inbound exchange students, Korea University showed a slight increase in its rank. With the proportion of international students steadily increasing every year, it is expected that the university will have a better result in future university rankings.
